Miriam Cavanagh is of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. Miriam works as a cultural mentor and educator in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and health areas, to ensure that both Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people’s health are at the core. She has dedicated around 20 years of working in community health, research, strategic workforce planning, training and development, primary healthcare and health promotion. Her work in education has been within the planning, development and delivery of both Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health subjects as part of the MBBS/MD program. Her dedicated area is to promote and support the placement of students into the medical workforce throughout Australia.This work established a framework for partnership between Non Indigenous and both Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples within the community, and health teachings are influenced by the needs of that community.
