The Yarning* Aboriginal Mothers Program (YAMP), based in Gunawirra House, Rozelle is an early intervention service for women with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children.
The program occurs on a weekly basis, during this time our team of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal professionals work together alongside the women to support them and their family’s needs. By focusing on and actively supporting the vital healthy links between mother and child, we aim to reduce the impact of intergenerational trauma in Aboriginal families.

Research and Evaluation
In a 2021-2022 partnership, Australian Catholic University is assessing the mid to long-term impact of our Yarning Aboriginal Mothers Program, (YAMP) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers and their children. This partnership and engagement is characterised by high levels of cultural safety, whereby engagement is culturally appropriate and respectful. The project will also make recommendations for the program’s future operation and expansion while also reconnecting to mothers and children that have been part of the program.
In 2015, the Yarning Aboriginal Mothers Program was previously evaluated by Women’s Health Psychology, Centre for Health Research and the School of Medicine at the University of Western Sydney. Access the YAMP Research Paper.
